Preschool anxiety
Jake is signed up to go to preschool next month. It will be the first time he will be away from home without us and I am a nervous wreck about it. Yes, I know it’s only 3 hours, for two days a week, but still, I just can’t help worrying about him. Mostly I am worried that his speech is so difficult to understand that he won;t make any friends and he will quickly become frustrated with preschool. He is a social little charmer, even when meeting people for the first time. So, maybe my fears are unfounded. Plus, I have had numerous discussions with the preschool director about his special needs. She has assured me that he will be fine. Either way, I am taking the day off his first day of preschool to deal with all the crying and separation anxiety (mostly from me, I’m sure).

I’ll be thinking of you, Mels. Hang in there!

I will never forget the day I dropped my firstborn off at preschool for the first time. It felt very unnatural to be driving away from the school — almost surreal. I remember calling my husband, in tears. “What time is it?” he said. “9am” I replied. “What time do you pick him up?” he countered. “eleven thirty,” I laughed.
All will be well. Not to worry.
Hang in there.
