Lion Sleeps Tonight…maybe
For his 3rd birthday, Jake received a new toddler bed as a gift from Grandma. We have been sharing a family bed for a while now, but now it is time to move on to the next step. Typically, our night-time routine goes like this: 9:00 pm brush teeth, say goodnight, and then 1 episode of his favorite PBS show “Superwhy”. By 9:30-ish, the show ends and Jake easily drifts off to sleepyland within 5-10 minutes after the tv is turned off. Fast-forward to 7:00-7:30am, and it’s “wakey wakey Momma”. My problem now becomes how do I wean him off the current routine to get him to fall asleep on his own? We decided to change a few things about the sleep routine this week: 1) Sleeping earlier. The new target time to get ready for bed is 8:00, which is a little early for us, but necessary for our future preschool schedule. 2) Replacing tv-watching with story-reading. This one should be easy, as Jake loves his books. And 3) Sleeping on his own bed. Our bedroom as a lot of space in it, so we are keep his toddler bed in the same room, I am figuring this will be easier to transition to instead of being dumped into his own room on top of everything else. I’ve got a plan and a bed, just need to put them together, wish me luck
I’ll update on how it goes…
