Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
Having a curious child can at once be a blessing and a curse. When Tommy was 2 or 3, he was very much into animals of all sorts. I would sit him in my lap in front of the computer, and he would say “Mommy, show me giraffes!” and I would type in “giraffe” into Yahoo image search. Image search is really a wonderful thing. You select the “images” tab on Yahoo or Google, type in the search word, and voila! A page full of thumbnails of exactly what you’re looking for. Or not!
Tommy got to see many different types of tigers, crocodiles, sharks, etc. We would go through pages and pages of different varieties of animals. And then he asked to see bears. DO NOT SEARCH FOR BEARS IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILD! What could be so terrible about Yahooing bears, you ask? After all, they look so cute and cuddly? Not these bears! I’ll save you the trouble and link to it here.
Now that Tommy is 6, he is going through an independent stage. I constantly find myself having to set new limitations. I caught him just as he was typing “megalodon shark” into Yahoo.
Mommy: Nuh uh! No Yahooing without parental supervision!
Tommy: OK. Can I Google it?

OMG…that is awesome. I saw some of the “bears” displayed in Google on Kathy Griffin’s “My Life on the D-List” the other night. Too funny!
