My big little man
Baby Ike turned 6 months old last week. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long, but the calendar doesn’t lie. I took him to the doctor for his 6 month check-up yesterday. The kid weighs 21.5 lbs! Of course I’ve known he was big all along. You don’t give birth to a 10 lb baby and then expect him to follow the normal growth curve.
So, I was worried that the doctor might put him on a diet. This is something that I would have a hard time doing, as the kid has a very healthy appetite. He can actually consume more oatmeal than his 6 year old brother. Of course his brother is a whole other story. My hair didn’t turn gray in my 20’s for no reason.
Lucky for me, the doctor explained that Ike’s weight and height are very proportionate, so he’s not a fat baby, just a large one. His weight is in the 50th percentile for an 11 month old, and his height is in the 50th percentile for a 10 month old. Not bad!
Oh and for the record, I’m not overweight. My weight is in the 50th percentile for a 6 ft tall woman. Just don’t ask me my height.
As always, Ike’s appointment ended with shots. I can’t stand that part. Seeing my baby in pain just breaks my heart. I gritted my teeth as I saw the needle coming at him. But Ike took it like a man. A MACHO man. He didn’t even seem to notice the first shot. He started to cry at the second shot, but then instantly changed his mind. That’s my boy!
