The Mommy Guilt Chronicles: Episode #1001
We’ve all felt it. That imminent sense of guilt when we do virtually anything that doesn’t include our kids. Want to get a pedicure? Oh wait…I should be spending that time with my baby. Have to go to work? Even as you’re cheering at the idea of dropping them off at daycare after a particularly long, loud weekend (and definitely enjoying the peace and quiet in the car as you drive toward work) there it is…that inevitable nagging guilt.
Here is my latest guilty pleasure: leaving my son to play happily in his crib while I sit on the couch drinking a really hot cup of coffee (without worrying it will get knocked out of my hand by a flying foot or arm) and watching the ladies on “The View” argue over the latest political candidates. Ahhhhhh…the simplicity of the moment. But then there’s that nagging in the back of my mind. How could I be so selfish and miss this precious time with my sweet baby boy?
I know…I need to get over it and enjoy the few precious moments we all steal for the sake of sanity.
Go find a few solitary mommy moments! (And push that guilty nag off your shoulder.)
